Sun/Neptune squares (like the one on December 14th) act as cosmic reminders that there is more to heaven and earth than is dreamt of in our philosophy. This is when our surface world conceits and ambitions are suddenly plunged into the undersea realm of variant forms and alternate realities. This used to be referred to as having a “rich fantasy life” back in the day, but more and more it’s come to describe our existence – particularly when we talk about the difference between our physical and virtual realities. Neptune is the planet of the Collective Unconscious – a primordial realm of archetypes that enmesh us all. A shared dream, but not in the sense of a vision but rather a well-spring. This is the hallucinatory plane of symbols that we find equally fantastic and familiar; a place where we can imagine the world as something truer. The most important question that a Sun/Neptune square asks is: What if? As in, what if circumstances were to produce a different result or what if I didn’t turn left but went right instead? We often talk about What If questions as if they were regrets but they never lose their ability to open doors to future possibilities. All we have to do is turn the knob.
