THERE IS NO ESCAPE FROM HISTORY

Jupiter in Capricorn sextiles Neptune in Pisces on Feb. 20. It takes a long time for these planets to move into this kind of alignment. In fact the last time these two planets formed this aspect was in 1854 – which was when the Republican Party was founded here in the United States. The Republican Party was created in order to oppose the spread of slavery into the western territories. It was created to fight the “tyranny” of a polarizing president (Andrew Jackson). A lot of things have changed in 160 + years, but the meaning of this configuration is still clear: history has a long memory and like an elephant, it never forgets. There were people ready to do the right thing then just like there are people ready to do the right thing now – no matter how much the names have changed, the positions have reversed, and the issues have been turned inside out. As the Republican President Abraham Lincoln once said: “The dogmas of the past are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty and we must rise to the occasion. As our case is new, so we must think anew and act anew. We must disenthrall ourselves and then we will save our country.”
