FATHER FIGURE

On April 18th, the Sun in Aries will square Pluto in Capricorn for the last time in our lifetimes. Since both signs are patriarchal in nature, this will bring to an end a 14 year period where you have had to grapple with your own relationship to your father. Was he domineering or absent? Affectionate or aloof? Encouraging or strict? Whatever you got (or didn’t get) from him was probably projected on to authority figures you answered to and it was during these serial squares that you began to see how the approval you seek really must come from yourself first. It doesn’t matter if your father failed in the parent knows best category because all of those things you wanted from him  – like guidance, protection, and support – you can now embody and give to those who rely on you. Sometimes it’s not the exemplary parent who teaches us how to be a good person, but the one who stumbles or doesn’t measure up. Not only does this person teach us what not to do by example, but they also show us how hard it can be when you’re the one in charge.
