You have nothing to apologize for. You’re being very clear on what you want in a relationship and if the other person can’t meet your terms then so be it. You may be surprised by how unbending you’re being – you’re usually much more open-minded – but years of “let’s see what happens” have shown that you’re the one who’s flexible and experimental while your partner is not. And you’re not interested in repeating any more bad scenes. If this person’s agreeable to what you’re asking for: great. If not? Move on. If there’s anything you’ve learned it’s that the glass slipper either fits or it doesn’t.
