There's something to be said for "look but don't touch". If you could have it, you'd be over it; anticipation leaves you in a state of fluttery excitement.
Chalk everything up to a misunderstanding and move on. Explaining yourself only puts you back in the echo chamber.
Someone wants to do right by you, but their good intentions could pave the way to a hellish situation. Say thanks, but no thanks.
