Does the date Nov. 8, 2018, resonate with you? That’s when your Ruling Planet, Jupiter, returned to Sagittarius, the mutable fire sign it rules. Jupiter only comes “home” once every 12 years, and it will remain in your sign for just 13 months.

So, what should you expect when the planet of good fortune and higher purpose comes home? Shall we modestly say: “good things”? Many good things, in fact? Hey, Child of Jupiter, the stars are smiling upon you!

Not only are lucrative offers likely to tumble in but golden opportunities in all shapes and sizes show up where you least expect to find them, and a form of divine luck protects you as you experiment and dash at new windmills. This is your “Get Out of Jail Free” card should you need it, so use it to realize your potential and increase the moral value of your life.

The question is, Child of Jupiter, will you train your eyes to see these gifts from on high? Do you have the knack to make something of these opportunities? Will you be courageous enough to explore new territory and embrace the spirit of adventure during this exciting time?

To benefit from Jupiter moving through your sign, imagine surfing. You need to paddle out and watch the waves, set your sights on the perfect one and then paddle hard to catch it, pop up and ride it in for an exhilarating rush of momentum. Sure, there might be sharks lurking below or a coral reef you’re about to crash into, but that’s where divine luck comes in.

The best way to catch your wave of higher purpose is immersing yourself in long-distance travel, university studies, spiritual education at church, or even breaking with a traditional religion to explore new faiths and deeper spirituality.

Jupiter is about liberation and fulfillment. Have you been released from something that was binding you? Thank your Ruling Planet. So, what will you now do with your freedom?

You’ll want to brush up on your skill set and bring your best game when Jupiter is in your sign. Don’t be complacent and say, “Oh, I’ve done this job for years.” This is the time to make a switch from one line of work to another. If you’re driving a cab and all you want to do is act, now’s the time to pursue it, when Jupiter is in your sign. If it doesn’t work out, then it was not meant to be.

Saturn tests you by withholding, but Jupiter tests you by giving you what you want. How do you handle good fortune? Winning the lottery does not necessarily make your life wonderful. Without a higher purpose, wealth soon becomes meaningless.

You need to be making something of your prospects and stop turning your nose up at opportunities you deign not to be the right ones. Consider what has gone in to getting you where you are now. Have you missed opportunities along the way? How do you govern your life? Will you have something to show for it the end of 2019 or will all the promise slip through your fingers?

Even though 2019 bodes well for you, that doesn’t mean you won’t face challenges in 2019. Two eclipses in January kick off the new year. The first one, on Jan. 5, hits a sensitive area in your chart as of late, your solar second house ruling over your money and earning ability. With Saturn and Pluto residing in this house and not going anywhere fast, it’s been hard to be upbeat about your financial position over the past year. An unforeseen development, in fact, might have you careening around a curve in order to come up with needed cash for January.

While having Jupiter back in Sagittarius helps you imagine all the possibilities, there is such a thing as too much imagination and too many possibilities. That’s what happens on Jan. 13 when Jupiter squares Neptune, hinting that things at home are becoming increasingly nebulous and fluid. Or perhaps one of your parents is fading fast, and you haven’t paid enough attention to their condition. The positive face you show the world belies these concerns somehow.

The stress could impact pending travel plans or a return to higher education. A total lunar eclipse on Jan. 20 has you asking if your higher purpose needs to be put on hold. The answer is likely “yes,” until you can see things more clearly.

After a few brief interruptions, good things begin to flow. First, Venus, the ruler of love and attraction, conjoins Jupiter on Jan. 22. Having the zodiac’s two benefics meet up in your solar first house is a thing of great beauty. For one day, at least, your first house will be a place where, as Garrison Keillor is wont to say, “the women are strong and the men good-looking and all the children above average.”

Three days later, on Jan. 25, Mars, the planet of action and passion, trines Jupiter, giving you a burst of energy to pursue your goals. Following that, Mercury, the planet of communication, and the Sun, ruling our identity, sextiles Jupiter on Feb. 3 and 7 respectively. These planets are working hard to keep you on track and provide ways for you to benefit from Jupiter’s time in Sagittarius.

You’ll want to make the most of these transits because on April 11, Jupiter will be going retrograde until Aug. 12. By this we mean, the planet of good fortune appears to be moving backward in your sign. It doesn’t mean your good luck has gone away, but there’s a definite lull, kind of like when the Zamboni comes out between hockey periods and resurfaces the ice. There’s time enough for you to use the restroom on the mezzanine and order some nachos. But for some serious action, you’ll need to wait till August.

A Jupiter retrograde is always a test of faith. It’s asking if you still believe in your higher purpose and giving you a chance to reload your quiver. It’s just going to take more work to achieve the results you want but you can still make it happen.

In the meantime, you’ll need to deal with another square between Jupiter and Neptune on June 16 and on Sept. 21, one that again highlights the disconnect between the frank optimistic face you show to the world and the more escapist, dissipating influences going on at home. The best way to bring these two into alignment is to seek an objective opinion from someone you trust and get some help getting your home life squared away.

July brings two more eclipses to be mindful of: The July 2 solar eclipse in your solar eighth house and the July 16 lunar eclipse in your solar second house. Both potentially usher in financial blind spots, with the first eclipse pointing to concerns over what your partner is bringing to the table for a joint investment and the second looking back at earnings for work done six months prior that may have been withheld or disputed. You may live in a moral universe, but not everyone around you does. If money is due to you, you may have to insist it be paid.

Later in July, when Mars, the Sun and Venus travel through Leo (and Mercury in August), you’ll benefit from the trines they make to Jupiter, providing your planet with bursts of inspiration from your solar ninth house. If there is a time for long-distance travel, late July through August might be it.

On Aug. 12, Jupiter goes direct in Sagittarius, giving you three more months to explore new places, seek diverse viewpoints and embrace more enlightened ways to live. It’s also a time to recalibrate your moral compass. Morality is important to you, as is justice and generosity of spirit. You can get beat down and demoralized the same as any other sign, but in the end, you believe your set-backs have meaning and teach you important lessons – namely, how to be a better human being. And oddly enough, as you become a better human, so do others who know you.

After a planet spends time in a fire sign such as Sagittarius, it always goes next into an earth sign, so you can give the inspiration of the fire sign concrete form. To help you connect the dots and take stock of Jupiter’s munificence in your sign, Venus, goddess of friendship and attraction, again meets up with Jupiter in your solar first house, on Nov. 24, in the final degrees of Sagittarius.

It’s the perfect send off because on Dec. 3, Jupiter enters sober-sided Capricorn, in your solar second house. There are few better places to give substance to your higher purpose than this house, which rules your money. With Saturn and Pluto teaming up in Capricorn, and following a series of eclipses in this house, your money situation has been tested and challenged over the past two years.

A third solar eclipse in this house on Dec. 25 adds Jupiter to the Sun/Moon mix, meaning while there may be blind spots in the months ahead regarding your money, you now have Jupiter’s insight and optimism encouraging you to make the most of your financial opportunities. And Saturn, the stern taskmaster, awaits in the same sign and house to enforce financial discipline. What could go wrong? You’ll want to check back here to see how it all will work out in 2020.
